Second COVID-19 Case in Maniilaq Service Area

May 22, 2020 – A resident of a Northwest Arctic Borough village has tested positive for COVID-19 in Anchorage. The individual was not in the village at the time of the test and has not returned since testing positive.  Maniilaq is in contact with the State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology to ensure precautions are taken to protect anyone who may have been in close contact with the individual.  Anyone contacted should self-isolate for 14 days and contact the COVID-19 Hotline if any symptoms develop.

We do not have enough information yet to know if this person spent time in their village after being infected.  We will update the community and region as more information becomes available.  Maniilaq Health Center will be sending a team to the community today, May 22nd, to offer testing, particularly to individuals who may have been in contact with the patient.

Maniilaq Association will work closely with local and regional entities to help keep service area residents informed.
