Noorvik hosted the Elliott Sampson Memorial Run on September 21, 2020.
One of the most inspiring chapters in Alaska sport history unfolded on Oct. 10, 1981 when Elliott Sampson from Noorvik High School won the State Cross Country meet.
The starting line. He has been running since elementary. He is now in the 8th grade and continues to run. His ribbons and numbers reflects his desire to run. He’s been inspired by Elliott’s story and wants to work towards that finish line too. The front group of the runners.
Elliott spent the summer training, in the sand and mud, steep hills, in the trees, at the airport, wearing snowshoes, while the whole time his ahna Mildred was encouraging him to have a spoon of seal oil everyday.
“Elliott never did anything halfway.”
