Maniilaq Association Behavioral Health Services (BHS) is excited to introduce Tundra House, a new community space in Kotzebue focused on connection, wellness, recovery, and community support.
Tundra House is a BHS-run space supported by Prevention Team Members, Peer Support Specialists, Behavioral Health Aides (BHAs), and therapists. The space is designed to provide a welcoming, low-barrier environment where community members can connect with others, participate in activities, learn about wellness and recovery, and access support from BHS staff. Throughout the month, Tundra House will offer a variety of special activities and community events, including opportunities to participate in traditional and creative activities such as sewing, beading, and other hands-on activities. Activities will change throughout the year based on community interest and may include opportunities for cultural connection, creativity, wellness, education, and social connection. In addition to special activities, Tundra House will offer ongoing wellness-focused groups and activities led by BHS staff and peer support. Right now, we offer the following:
- Mindful Movement group- a group focused on accessible body movements and exercises to support health and wellbeing
- Wellness group- a group focused on information and community sharing on various wellness topics like navigating anxiety, understanding trauma, and working with stress
- MMIP support group- a group focused on activities of remembrance, grief-processing, and ongoing support of family members of missing or murdered loved ones.
- QPR- Suicide Prevention community training (final workshop for the year will be Oct 2nd)
- Mending Broken Hearts group- a group-based healing program to address unresolved grief, loss, and intergenerational or historical trauma within our community
Tundra House is intended to be a place where people can come as they are, connect with community, try something new, and find support when they need it.
Tundra House is located at 322 Second Street in Kotzebue, in the building behind the Church of God. Stay connected with Maniilaq Behavioral Health Services for upcoming Tundra House activities, groups, and community events. We look forward to welcoming you!
