11/1/02 -- Maniilaq.org has expanded to include a virutal tour of employee housing. You can view the inside of a typical unit by visiting the Housing Tour page.

9/9/02 -- On September 6th, the Maniilaq Board of Directors selected Helen Bolen, a life-long resident of Kotzebue, as the new Maniilaq President. She begins her tenure during an exciting time for Maniilaq.

9/7/01 -- Plans have been made to construct new health clinics in all of the villages located in the Maniilaq Association service area. The new, state-of-the-art facilities will encompass 5200 square feet. Although populations of villages vary substantially, all clinics will be equally sized to ensure an equal level of service to all patients. Also, this standardization will make the clinics more affordable to construct and will provide a familiar environment to doctors, dentists, psychologists, and other personnel visiting the clinic to provide services to the community. Despite complications in the shipment of building materials, the Kiana clinic will soon be completed, and all the new clinics should be open by 2003.

9/3/01 -- Maniilaq Association, in conjunction with OTZ Telephone Cooperative and General Communications, Inc. (GCI), has recently embarked on a new venture to bring fast, reliable, and affordable Internet access to villages in the Northwest Arctic Borough. The new independent service, called Inutek.net, uses state-of-the-art wireless and DSL technology to connect residents in rural Northwest Alaska to the Internet. Maniilaq Association is responsible for installation, technical support, and maintenance of the wireless system, available in Ambler, Buckland, Kivalina, Selawik, and Shungnak. OTZ maintains the DSL system for Deering, Kiana, Kobuk, Noatak, and Noorvik. For additional information or to sign-up for service, visit the Inutek.net website at www.inutek.net.
